About the Artist:
Barbara Tipton has been creating pottery for over 30 years and has her own studio and art company in Kenny Lake, Alaska. Although she is not limited to dishes, vases, kitchen utensils, for this assignment, these are the types of pottery that define her work as applied art. Her art serves daily purposes in food preparation and presentation. Her work is not only beautiful, it is useful.

Question 1: Why do you do what you do? (Make art)
Answer: "It is in me to create. This gives me joy. I find my inspiration through nature and want to express myself through nature. I use all natural materials to create my art."


Question 2: What is the meaning behind what you do? What do you try to convey with your work?
Answer: "Like I said previously, I want to express myself through nature. Nature inspires me, and I want to share this expression with the users of my pottery."
