On the Graffiti Beat by Terri Cloakey

This is graffiti which I found in Newnan, painted on the side of a pawn shop. It features a tribute to Charlie Chaplin as well as several spray-painted nicknames. I do believe this particular example of graffiti, and even graffiti in general, is most definitely classified as "art". Specifically, I consider graffiti to be a form of folk art. Graffiti is created by established techniques using spray paints- affordable and readily available resources- and is an easily identifiable representation of urban culture as well as hip hop culture. Graffiti, like other folk art, often reflects the social values of local social groups- it can mark the territory of local gangs, depict political stances, or sometimes simply and anonymously showcase the artist's work.

Fauvism

Fauvism, a relatively short-lived movement in French painting from about 1898 to about 1908. The Fauves rejected the impressionist palette of soft, shimmering tones in favor of the vibrant colors used by the postimpressionists Paul Gaugin and Vincent Van Gough for expressive emphasis. Fauves painted with poetic energy using vigorous lines, simplified yet dramatic surface patterns and intense colors.
Les Fauves, literal English translation is the wild beasts. Fauvism was originally a pejorative label applied to the group at their firs exhibition in 1905. The artists include Andre Derain, Maurice de Vlamick, Raoul Dufy,Georges Braque, Henri Manguin, Albert Marquet, Jean Puy, Emile Othon Friesz and Henri Maltisse. The leaders of the group were Henri Maltisse and Andre Derain. Technically the fauvist use of color derived from experiments made by Matisse at Saint-Tropez in the summer of 1904, working with the neoimpressionist painters who paced small dabs of pure color side by side to achieve and even more optically correct image than that of the impressionists. Matisse and Derain painted together at Collioure in the summer of 1905. They began to use pure complementary colors applied in flat, vigorous strokes, achieving an equivalent rather than a description of light. Derain said the "golden light that eliminates shadows. Matisse made a woman's nose flat green and it added to the color composition and expression of the painting in 'Portrait of Madame Matisse'.

What art move ment are you?

You Are Surrealism

Dreamy and idealistic, you've created a world that is all your own.

It's very likely that you've either dabbled in drugs or are naturally trippy.

You are always trying to push beyond the boundaries of your culture and society.

You believe that art, love, and freedom can change the world.

You Are Romanticism

You are likely to see the world as it should be, not as it is.

You prefer to celebrate the great things people do... not the horrors they're capable of.

For you, there is nothing more inspiring than a great hero.

You believe that great art reflects the artist's imagination and true ideals.

You Are Pop Art

When it comes to art, you're definitely not a snob.

You can appreciate the mainstream aspects of culture, even if you need to twist them a bit to make them your own.

Whether you're into comics, retro pinups, or bold colors, you embrace what's eye catching and simple.

As far as most other art goes, you consider it a little too elitist and high brow for your tastes!

You Are Modernism

You tend to be oriented toward the future and technology.

You like art that signals how the world might change in radical ways.

As far as art goes, everything in the past is obsolete - and it's time to carve a new path.

You prefer art that doesn't follow any rules - even if the art doesn't make much sense.

You Are Impressionism

You think the world is quite beautiful, especially if you look at it in new and interesting ways.

You tend to focus on color and movement in art.

For you, seeing the big picture is much more important than recording every little detail.

You can find inspiration anywhere... especially from nature.

You Are Expressionism

Moody, emotional, and even a bit angsty... you certainly know how to express your emotions.

At times, you tend to lack perspective on your life, probably as a result of looking inward too much.

This introspection does give you a flair for the dramatic. And it's even maybe made you cultivate some artistic talents!

You have a true artist's temperament... which is a blessing and a curse.

Erin Hammond's Diorama

America was founded by men and women who set off in search of religious freedom. They formed the United States as a land for FREE men. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness were said to be our birth rights, that no government could take away from us.
We are all aware of the past struggles we've encountered for African-American rights and woman's rights. Now we must work on Gay rights.
Why should someone have the right to vote on who someone else marries? Why should they not receive the same benefits?
My diorama represents the past struggles, as well as the current.

"Give to every human being every right that you claim yourself."
-Robert Ingersoll

Individual Assignment: Diorama (Michael Onuoha)

Gay Marriage?

Same-sex marriage (also referred to as gay marriage) is a term for a governmentally, or socially, recognized marriage between two people of the same sex. Same-sex marriage and gay marriage are the most common terms used in news media and politics. Other terms used are included below.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For my issue in the world that I feel strongly about, it would be Gay Marriage? Thus I have contructed a diorama of a simple gay wedding between two male. Of course at a church scene, we were asked to use 2d and 3d effect (2 meaning flat and 3d meaning subject has depth). You will see in my Diorama had I have implemented these two aspects. The scenario goes like this, two gay males named James and Edward, are getting married, happy as can be right, but you will see a not so happy camper in the scene wishing to end this marriage? Stating, " Sodomy is a Sin" A simple wedding is stop or hated on due to protest and non-acceptance.
My Ideas and Opinions

I feel that is two females or two males are truely happy and want to get married they should, and no has the right to distrub their happy. I believe that it should be allowed in the court and church system around the world for gays to marry. God said to treat thy neighborhoods with love and respect. A.K.A the same way you would like to be treated. Just because you don't think its right you should hate, that is not what MLK, Ghandi, and others thought, violence and hate, is not the way but through peace we all can co-exist together.

If two gay people (female or male) are happy together they should marry and be happy and have right just like anyone else, we all are human and entitled to certain rights. Look at hetrosexual couples who aren't so happy together yet have the rights to marry, but later end in divorce and such. Look at the high rate in divorce (mostly hetrosexuals, am I right, exactly.) So my diorama gives a little in-sight to a gay marriage wedding, I feel that people shouldn't hate on what they do not clear know nor understand and to treat others with respect and happiness, that is the main goal in my diorama and in life, happiness should be given to all, neither hetro or homo (sexuals).

P.S. I work hard on this diorama so a feedback would nice, on my thoughts and diorama pictures.
